Business Development Manager – Hampshire UK Our Client is the leader in the UK steel processing and service centre sector, and part of one of the worlds largest metal producers. They have unrivalled products, processing and technical recourses that enable them to provide innovative material solutions for their customers.
Their Southampton site is now looking to increase market share and as a result of this they are looking for a Business Development Manager. You role will be to: - Develop a robust sales and marketing plan for the general market that seeks to develop new business opportunities whilst exploiting existing accounts to their fullest potential, in order grow market share and profit. - Determine and secure the stock requirements necessary to deliver the sales plan while ensuring working capital investment is minimised. - Translate sales plan into targets and work programmes that detail levels of customer contact for self and team so that individually and collectively, they understand their contribution to its delivery. - Monitor daily sales, stock and cash performance in order to agree with sales people the remedial action necessary ensure sales plan targets are met. - Ensure, through timely resolution of disputes and prompt cash collection that working capital resource is minimised in the servicing of general market accounts. - Contribute to the development of a business commercial operating policy applicable to the general market, informed as appropriate by the Group, in order that sales staff understand the limits of their authority on pricing, credit, transport costs etc. - Monitor the growth of accounts in order to identify when they may be better suited to formal account management arrangements and manage their transfer accordingly. - Identify and promote, through regular customer contact, the potential for further development of added value activities in order to build customer dependency, gain market share and increase profit. - Motivate, train, develop and organise the Business Development team, managing its performance and reward, to maintain an effective workforce capable of meeting its current and projected objectives. - Ensure that own and team operations, including those undertaken on the Company's behalf by third party service providers, are conducted in manner which fully complies with health and safety, quality, environmental and corporate policies.
To succeed in this challenging role you must be enthusiastic, self-motivated and an excellent communicator. You would also be expected to show commitment and a determination to succeed in a challenging commercial environment.
Good analytical and IT skills are also required. Previous sales experience in the steel strip standards market is preferred while the candidate must show the aptitude to be able to take the first step into sales management.
