How to make Kadhamba Saadham ( Mixed Vegetable Rice )?
Cook the rice in 2 1/2 cups water. Cook the thoor dhal separately in 1 cup water adding a pinch of turmeric powder. Clean and cut the vegetables into large pieces and cook them in water. Fry the channa dhal, coriander seeds, venthayam, asafetida and red chilly in some oil and powder them along with the salt. Heat up the tamarind water and as it starts to boil, add the sambar powder and the prepared powder and mix. Let it boil for 5 more minutes until the raw tamarind smell disappears. Add the cooked vegetables and the cooked thoor dhal and boil further for about 5 minutes. Add the gingelly oil and ghee to the cooked rice and mash it well. Pour the prepared sambar over the rice and mix evenly. DO NOT use a ladle or spatula to mix, as it would cause the vegetables to be mashed as well. Apart from the vegetables mentioned, you may add any other vegetables like Chow-Chow, Raw Banana, Yam , etc., according to your liking and taste.
